Comes to Penn State Abington from St. John Fischer (NY)

ABINGTON, PA.  Penn State Abington announced that Jeff Dobbin has been hired as the school's first full time Sports Information Director. Dobbin will begin his duties January 9.

Dobbin comes to Abington from St. John Fisher College (NY) where he was instrumental in the video production and webcasting for 21 varsity sports.  The native of Penfield, NY brings a portfolio that includes coordinating press box activities for football, designing and writing game day programs, and coordinating content for web and social media for all Cardinals athletic teams. Prior to his time at St. John Fisher, Dobbin oversaw video and game operations at Cornell University, assisting the video coordinator of Big Red Hockey and men's soccer.

“Jeff brings a modern approach to athletics communications. His expertise with video content development and media graphics will greatly enhance our newly launched website abingtonsports.com”, said Director of Athletics Dr. Karen Weaver. “In addition, his passion for the administrative side of college athletics will serve him well in managing our media efforts.”

Dobbin also spent time as the media relations coordinator for the Chicago Machine, a Major League Lacrosse franchise.   His work included media game notes, guides, weekly newsletters and promotional activities. He has also been an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Ithaca College (2010-11) and an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Rochester Institute of Technology (2009-10).

Dobbin earned his master's degree in sports management from Ithaca College and his bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport, also in sports management. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) and the Collegiate Sports Video Associations.

“I am honored to begin as the Sports Information Director at Penn State Abington,” Dobbin said. “I'd like to thank the search committee for allowing me to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, and I look forward to working with the coaches and other administrators to make Abington the best it can be.”

Dobbin comes to Penn State Abington at a time of tremendous growth in the Athletics program.  A member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference, Penn State Abington is in its final year of provisional membership in NCAA Division III.  The department offers 14 varsity sports and supports 225 student athletes.
