Penn State Abington Hires Annette Reiter as Women’s Basketball Coach

ABINGTON, PA - Annette Reiter, a 20-year coaching veteran, has been introduced as the head coach of the Penn State Abington women's basketball program. Penn State Abington Director of Athletics Dr. Karen Weaver made the announcement Monday afternoon.

“Annette Reiter brings passion, a terrific basketball background, and a signature style to Penn State Abington,” said Weaver. “Her ability to relate well to everyone she met showed us she was the right candidate. She is ready to be a college head coach.”

Reiter joins the Nittany Lions after completing her third season as Rowan University's assistant coach in the spring of 2012. She led the Owls to a 39-36 overall record with two NJAC conference championship seasons, producing four NJAC All-Conference players.

“I am very excited about starting my position as head women's basketball coach at Penn State Abington. I want to promote the concept to the young women at Penn State Abington that being part of the Women's basketball program contributes to their total educational experience,” said Reiter. “I not only want to teach the players every nuance of the game of basketball and the pursuit of athletic excellence but also assist these student athletes in developing lifelong skills in leadership, sportsmanship, commitment, respect and work ethic.”

Prior to arriving at Rowan University in 2009, Reiter started her coaching career as the girls' basketball varsity assistant and junior varsity coach for her alma mater Gloucester Catholic High School from 1991-1997.  She served as the girls' basketball head coach at Glassboro High School from 1997-2000.  Reiter was the head coach at Bishop Eustace Prep from 2000-2005.  While at Bishop Eustace, the team won the 2002 Parochial B Division State Championship.

Reiter graduated from Widener University in 1983 with a bachelor's of science in nursing.  She is third on the Pride's all-time scoring list with 1,568 points.  Reiter has worked as a visiting nurse for 28 years.
