Mike joined Coach Pavlow’s staff in 2014 as a hitting/catching/strength coach following a standout three-year career behind the plate for Penn State Abington. After spending his freshman year at Delaware Valley Univeristy, Mike transferred to Penn State Abington in 2011 for his sophomore season, immediately making an impact and helping lead Penn State Abington to a 12-2 NEAC record and the program’s first ever 1st place regular season finish.
Individually, Mike was an outstanding catcher and offensive juggernaut in the middle of the Penn State Abington lineup from 2011-2013. Mike was/is known for his tremendous work ethic and production, which is evident throughout the Penn State Abington Baseball Record Books, having finished his college career ranking in the top 5 in each of the following statistical categories: Batting Average (5th), Stolen Bases (5th), Walks (4th), Homeruns (3rd), Runs Scored (3rd), RBI’s (3rd), Hits (2nd), Doubles (2nd), and Total Bases (2nd). Mike also earned First Team ALL NEAC during his junior and senior seasons, as well as being named ALL Mid-Atlantic Region his senior season.
Following his college baseball career, Mike’s work ethic and dedication took him to the professional ranks where he played for the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos Independent Baseball League in 2014. In 2015, Mike continued his professional baseball career as a catcher for the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League. Mike Kerns is the first player in Penn State Abington Baseball history to play professional baseball.
