Box Score Fort Washington, PA – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team hosted NEAC opponent Wells College today in its NEAC home opener. The Nittany Lions beat the Express 5-0 starting their season off 1-0 while the Express fall to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
In the first half of action, Penn State Abington put pressure on the Wells defense totaling 10 shots but was unable to find the net with any of them. The first half ended scoreless for both teams, 0-0.
In the second half, the Nittany Lions offensive pressure dominated as they controlled the ball resulting in 12 total shots. At about the 47:33 mark, the Express succumbed to the constant pressure by Penn State Abington's offense resulting in 4 unanswered goals within the next five minutes.
Abington scored their first goal of the game about 2 minutes into the second half when junior midfielder Brittany Middleton (Chalfont, PA / Central Bucks South) passed the ball to newcomer Brittany Palmer (Philadelphia, PA / Archbishop Ryan) who scored on a close right wing shot. The second goal was scored by freshman defender Samantha Whalen (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks South) at the 52:18 mark, when she kicked it over the goalie's head from the far left wing area. About 30 seconds later, Middleton scored from inside the box on a great pass off the far right wing from Palmer. The fourth goal of the game, for the Nittany Lions, came at the 53:16 mark when Middleton scored her 2nd goal of the game on a penalty kick.
With 37 seconds left to play Penn State Abington scored their final goal of the game when freshman Adriana Rodriguez (Oceanside, CA / El Camino) scored her first collegiate career goal.
