Women's Soccer blanks Keuka College

Box Score Ft. Washington, PA - The Penn State Abington women's soccer team hosted Keuka College today, in its second NEAC conference game of the weekend, at Germantown Academy. The Nittany Lions shut out the Storm 5-0 as they start off the season 2-0, their best start in over four years.

Penn State Abington was first to get on the scoreboard when freshman Adriana Rodriguez (Oceanside, CA / El Camino) scored her second collegiate career goal at the 26:17 mark giving the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.

The Nittany Lions scored for the second time, at the 34:57 mark, when sophomore Alyssa Kaye (Levittown, PA / Bucks County Tech) put the ball in the goal after a scuffle in frontof the net off of junior Brittany Palmer's (Philadelphia, PA / Archbishop Ryan) cornerkick. This was Kaye's first goal of the season and the fourth of her career giving Penn State Abington a 2-0 lead as they went into halftime.

The Nittany Lions extended their lead, at the 54:36 mark, when junior Brittany Middleton (Chalfont, PA / ) scored her third goal of the season after beating her defender and finding the net through the upper left corner giving the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead.

Junior Kaitlin Kozole (Philadelphia, PA / St. Hubert's) gave Penn State Abington a comfortable 4-0 lead after she scored for the first time this season on an assist by sophomore Alie Lazar (Philadelphia, PA / Cardinal Dougherty) at the 61:20 mark.

At the 83:44 mark, Lazar then scored her first collegiate career goal after she beat her defender and kicked the ball into the lower left corner of the net giving the Nittany Lions an incredible 5-0 lead.

Penn State Abington pressured Keuka College on offense tallying 23 shots (17 SOG) and totaling 9 corner kicks. The Nittany Lions' defense stepped up allowing the Storm to 12 total shots (7 SOG) and no corner kicks.

In the net for Penn State Abington was freshman Gabrielle Benedict (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks West) who had her second consecutive shut-out with 7 saves on the day.

The women return to action on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 when they travel to Langhorne, PA for a non-conference game against Philadelphia Biblical University. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
