The Penn State Abington men's basketball team improved to 2-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference and 5-9 overall with a 77-67 win over visiting Cazenovia College (3-10, 0-4) on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions made a statement on the opening possession with
Mike Colacci connecting with
Mike Marvin off a three-point play. The intensity would continue as Abington went on a 12-0 run in a span of two minutes to extend the lead 22-7 with 7:25 remaining in the first half.
Cazenovia could not find a rhythm as they watched the Nittany Lion's lead grow to 19 as Colacci closed out the first stanza nailing two free-throws to extend the lead 42-23.
The Wildcats hoped to find a second wind during the start of the second half but were already in trouble as Senior
Will Alton posted a layup to start a 13 point scoring spree for Abington.
As the second half winded down, Dieter Clausess hoped to start a rally for Cazenovia after posting two consecutive shots with 5:19 remaining, but the Nittany Lions would hold off the Wildcats to earn their second conference victory with a 77-67 win.
Colacci recorded a career-high 25 points to lead all scorers, while also dishing out four rebounds and an assist. Freshman
Mike Marvin scored 19 points and collected 13 total rebounds, his eighth double-double of the season. Abington will close out the weekend at 12 p.m. on Sunday and will host SUNY IT. After Sunday's game, the Nittany Lions will return to action at 6 p.m. on Wednesday January 15th and will host Penn State Berks.
