Lancaster Too Much for the Lady Lions

The Penn State Abington women's basketball team lost 60-40 to Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday night at Lancaster, Pa.

Jacyln Vandiver netted 13 points for the Lady Lions as teammate Gabrielle Benedict grabbed ten rebounds for the visiting team. Jessica Schmidt posted nine points and seven rebounds, while Kate Schalck contributed eight points and five rebounds.

Abington jumped out to a six point lead in the beginning of the game as Schalck posted a layup to make it 9-3 at the 13:34 mark.
Lancaster began its cutting down the deficit five minutes later as Brooklyn Wilson completed a free throw to take the lead for the Chargers.

Despite a five point deficit, the Lady Lions refused to give up and came back to tie the game as Schalck competed a field goal to make it 20 apiece with 5:30 remaining in the first half.

The Chargers added eight extra points and lead at the half 28-22 as the teams headed into the locker rooms.

During the second half, the Lady Lions struggled to contain Lancaster's attack at the basket as the Chargers came out of the gate charging to a highest 23 point lead at the seven minute mark to put the game out of reach as they wrapped up the game 60-40.

Abington will return to action on Saturday as they host Gallaudet University at 3 p.m.
