Men's Basketball Loses Two Straight On The Road

Box Score Galloway, N.J. – Despite tying the game nine times in the game and finally taking the only lead in the game against Neumann University, Penn State Abington men's basketball team lost the battle late, dropping a 74-65 decision to the Knights at the Richard Stockton Tip-Off Tournament this afternoon.

The Nittany Lions turned in a balanced scoring attack with sophomore Mike Marvin leading the way with 17 points and 19 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double of the season, while junior Mike Colacci added 18 points in the loss.

Neumann (1-1) was led by Rich Whitten with 17 points and Dom Gibson, TaVaune Griffin, and Rafiq Williams scoring 11 points apiece.

The Knights jumped out to an 8-2 lead within six minutes of the opening tip-off before Abington went on a 8-4 run of its own to trail by one point with just under seven minutes remaining in the half. Neumann tried to hold its lead, but a jumper by sophomore Max Alton gave Abington its first lead of the game to make it 22-20 with 2:12 remaining. Both teams responded in the final minute, scoring four additional points before Dom Gibson nailed a 3-pointer to give the Kinghts a 27-26 edge at the end of the first half.

The second half played a similar tune as both teams battled to retain control of the lead before Neumann went on a 16-0 run midway through the second half for a 51-36 cushion. Abington pushed for a rally in the final five minutes remaining, cutting the deficit to nine but for every step they took in the right direction, Neumann had an answer.

Neumann controlled the game, edging Abington in just about every statistical category as the Knights shot 46 percent from the field in the second half to turn things around for the win over the Nittany Lions. Taking care of the basketball was the key role in the outcome with Neumann's defense forcing 14 turnovers for 16 points and scoring 24 points in the paint in the second half.

With the loss, Abington falls to 0-2 on the season. The Nittany Lions return to action Tuesday, Nov. 20 when they host Rosemont College at 8 p.m in the home opener.
