Pink Zone Doubleheader on Valentine’s Day for Abington Basketball

The men's and women's basketball teams have joined the “Pink Zone” team in partnership with the Penn State University Lady Lions and Barnes and Noble bookstores across campuses to raise breast cancer awareness by hosting a doubleheader on Valentine's Day. Both teams will be facing Lancaster Bible College.

First in action in Tuesday night's doubleheader will be the men's team at 6 p.m. The men are coming off of a 95-90 loss to Gallaudet University over the weekend. The first meeting between Penn State Abington and Lancaster Bible College ended in a 103-99 overtime loss for Nittany Lions.

Abington dominated the first half, shooting over 53% but allowed the Chargers to go on a 19-0 run in the second half, cutting Abington's lead to four. Lancaster Bible took control in overtime and handed Abington the loss. This time around, Abington seeks for redemption on their home court in the Lion's Den.

Following the men's game, the women will tip-off at 8 p.m. Like the men's, the women suffered another loss to Gallaudet University on Sunday afternoon. The last time the Lady Lions and the Chargers faced each other, Lancaster Bible proved to be too much for Abington, handing them a 60-40 loss.

Jaclyn Vandiver led the team in scoring that night with 13 points as Gabrielle Benedict snagged 10 rebounds off the boards. The first half was a back-and-forth battle as Abington refused to lie down without a fight. They came within six points at the end of the 1st half. The second half was all Lancaster as they stormed away with the game early.

The men's team will wrap up the regular season on Sunday February 19th as they host the conference leader, Penn State Harrisburg during Senior Day.

The Lady Lions season will commence with an action packed weekend. First they will head to Morristown, N.J. to face the Screaming Eagles of the College of St. Elizabeth Saturday, February 18th. Their final regular season game will be on Sunday, February 19th as they host Penn State Harrisburg in a doubleheader.

Tuesday's doubleheader should prove to be exciting as both teams look for much needed wins.
