The Penn State Abington men's and women's basketball teams will head south to Washington D.C. to face the Gallaudet University Bisons in a North East Athletic Confrence (NEAC) matchup on Sunday, February 12
th.
First to tip-off will be the men's team (8-15 overall. 5-6 NEAC) at 1 p.m. After coming off a 112-98 loss to Penn State Berks Wednesday night, the men dropped to fourth spot in the south division and have two games remaining after this weekend to fight for the wild-card spot of the NEAC playoffs. Therefore, the matchup against the number two Bisons (10-11, 7-5 NEAC) is a must win for the Nittany Lions this weekend.
The first time both teams meet on January 28
th, Gallaudet managed to outlast Abington by a score of 91-78. Despite the Alton brothers combining for a total 31 points and eight assists, the Nittany Lions were outscored by 13 points in the second half. Despite a back and forth game, the Bisons pulled away with the lead early into the second half.
At 3 p.m. the Lady Lions (0-20, 0-14 NEAC) will face the Bisons of Gallaudet University (5-15, 3-11 NEAC). The first time the two teams faced each other, Jaclyn Vandiver and
Jessica Schmidt mustered up 18 points each for Abington. Despite the efforts, the Lady Lions trailed for most of the game and ultimately fell to Gallaudet 58-47.
Trish Watson hopes to have a spectacular game as she plays towards her 1,000
th career point.
Both teams go into Sunday's games with the weight on their shoulders of a much needed win.
