Women's Soccer Wins Opener Over Rosemont, 3-1

The Penn State Abington women's soccer team opened the 2012 season with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Rosemont on Friday in a non-conference match-up.

The Lady Lions scored three unanswered goals in the second-half, and sophomore goalkeeper Gabrielle Benedict (Jamison, Pa.) had one save in the victory.
Abington came out firing, with seven shots on goal in the first half, but it was the Ravens who struck first in the 9th minute when Danielle Lelie connected off a corner kick by Lauren Whalen. Rosemont would be shut out the rest of the way.

With Abington trailing 1-0 at the half, freshmen midfielder Cindy Wade(Abington, Pa.) scored the unassisted goal in the 53rd minute to even the score.

Less than four minutes later, Kirsten Quinn (Fox Chase, Pa.) put in the go-ahead goal for the Lady Lions, knocking the ball into the back of the net twenty yards out off a pass from Desirae Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa.), giving Abington the lead for good.

Quinn later added her second goal of the season in the 78th minute for the Lady Lions, who returns to action in their home opener on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Cairn University at the United German-Hungarian Fields.
