Women’s Soccer Team Caps Regular Season with 7-0 Win Over Screaming Eagles

Box Score
Fort Washington, Pa. - Today marked the final regular season home game and senior day for Penn State Abington's women's soccer team. Abington was celebrating senior day for their lone senior and goalkeeper, Alyssa Kaye (Levittown, Pa.). The Nittany Lions are coming off a 1-1 2OT tie against Cabrini College on Wednesday and were looking to end the season on a positive note before advancing to the postseason. The College of St. Elizabeth is coming off a tough loss against SUNY IT and was looking to spoil Abington's senior day.

It didn't take long for Penn State Abington to get on the board when freshman Molly Wyman  (Abington, Pa.) served a ball up from 15-yards out and had it sail over St. Elizabeth's goalkeeper. In honor of senior day, Kaye started at forward instead of her usual position and in goal was junior Brianna Heck (Willow Grove, Pa.).

In the 5th minute, senior day was about to get much better for the lone senior when she scored her first of three goals on the day.  Kaye was able receive an assist from junior Mallory Mugnier (Glenside, Pa.) across the box and she finished right past St. Elizabeth's keeper. Later on in the stanza, sophomore Desirae Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa.) sent a corner kick towards the middle of the box, finding Kaye as she headed it in to make the score 3-0 for the Blue and White. During the 28th minute Kaye capped off her first career hat-trick when she scrambled for a deflected ball on the right side of the field and finished the shot towards the top right of the net. With the score 4-0, Abington's defense was playing as well as they have ever played, allowing the offense to stay on attack throughout the game.

In the 34th minute, Abington's Jacqueline Alexander (Washington Crossing, Pa.) had a shot from 15-yards out and was able to have it lob over the keeper's head to post her fifth goal on the season.  The first half ended with the Nittany Lions having a commanding 5-0 lead over the Screaming Eagles.

The second half began with Abington's defense starting right where they left off, controlling and minimizing the Screaming Eagles offense. In the 51st minute Abington's Adriana Rodriguez (Oceanside, Calif.) was able to control the ball left of the box and finished with a shot towards the left of the net.  Freshman Ashlee Kohn (Bensalem, Pa.) posted her fourth goal of the season in the 71st minute as she was able to connect on a cross from Courtney Leventhal (Bensalem, Pa.) and finish in the top of the net to make the final score 7-0.

Penn State Abington improved their record to 12-2-1 (10-1 NEAC) and St. Elizabeth fell to 0-17 (0-11 NEAC) on the year. While Penn State Abington advances to semifinal round of the postseason as the second seed in the NEAC, they will await the winner of the play-in game on November 2nd before traveling to Penn State Berks on November 9th for the semifinal round of the NEAC Conference Championship.
