Women's Soccer Gives Mustangs First Conference Loss With a 3-0 Victory

Three different Nittany Lions tally in crucial NEAC win

Box Score The Penn State Abington Nittany Lions women's soccer team squared up against the Morrisville State Mustangs for a NEAC contest on Saturday afternoon. Penn State Abington was coming off a 3-1 victory against SUNY IT, while the Mustangs were coming off a 4-2 victory against Fisher College. Morrisville State came into this game with a perfect 5-0 record in the NEAC, while Penn State Abington was looking to improve their 4-1 record.

It didn't take long for Penn State Abington to get on the board when Kayla Nolan was able to notch her fifth goal of the season. After having the ball rattle around in the box she was able to get control and put it in the right corner away from the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Morrisville State found themselves with a few chances to tie the game but to no avail. Although Penn State Abington was able to get an early goal they were not able to score another one before halftime.

In the second half it was all Penn State Abington. They controlled the ball for the majority of the half with stellar defense and ball movement. Not much longer into the half The Nittany Lions were able to increase their lead when Desirae Holmes found Ashlee Kohn to the left of the pitch and the freshman was able to sail one from 20 yards out, over the goalkeeper's head and into the top right of the net to make it 2-0. The Nittany Lions defense showed to be too much for Morrisville State, holding the Mustangs to just a few shots in the second half. Penn State Abington was able to add an insurance goal late in the second half when Kayla Nolan assisted Mallory Mugnier with a through pass that Mugnier was able to finish right of the goalkeeper to make it 3-0. The score 3-0 proved to be final and Abington's goalkeeper Alyssa Kaye was able to post her fifth shutout of the season.

Penn State Abington posted their third straight victory while improving their overall record to 8-2, and 5-1 in the NEAC. After the loss Morrisville State fell to 7-3, and 5-1 in the NEAC as well. The Nittany Lions are back at it Sunday for another NEAC game when they are home at Germantown Academy against Cazenovia College.
