Box Score BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Despite a game-high 16 points from junior
Jessica Schmidt, the Penn State Abington Lady Lions dropped its second game of the season to the Bryn Athyn Lions by a 64-24 final score on Thursday night.
Schmidt made 5-of-10 shots from the field, and 6-of-7 from the stripe en route to her 16 points. Senior
Janay Winston added six points, with
Kayla Nolan chipping in two. Schmidt pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, with
Amanda McLean dishing out a pair of assists.
Shannon Kennedy had a team-best two steals in the 18 minutes played.
Bryn Athyn (1-1) scored on each of their first four possessions, jumping ahead to a 8-2 lead, and never trailing in the contest. Abington quickly rebounded into the game after a slow start with a jumper from Winston followed by a layup by Schmidt before adding a free throw to cut the margin to just one point. However, an 18-0 Bryn Athyn run put the margin at 18, and it never reached single digits over the rest of the contest.
The Lions of Bryn Athyn led 29-13 at halftime and the Lions rattled off 22 straight points to put the game further out of reach.
Kristina Clark led three Bryn Athyn players in double-figures with 19, as Hajaaha Stevens scored 18, and Brittany Vick 10.
Penn State Abington will hit the road this weekend as it travels to Langhorne, Pa. to take on the Highlanders of Cairn University for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
