Box Score Reading, Pa. - The Penn State Abington women's soccer squad earned a spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship match with a 1-0 win earlier Saturday afternoon over Lancaster Bible College. Junior defender
Brigitta Good scored the lone goal of the match with just 5:12 left to play, breaking a scoreless tie and giving the Nittany Lions the crucial 1-0 victory. In a game in which each side struggled to put many chances together, each corner kick or set piece became that much more important. With the Nittany Lions and Chargers combining to take just seven shots on goal, and the game winding down towards overtime, the Blue and White earned a corner kick after a few minutes of relentless pressure in the Lancaster Bible end.
Desirae Holmes stepped up to take the corner kick and sent a ball swinging directly into the middle of the box. A sea of white and black jerseys rose to meet the ball simultaneously, but the ball simply deflected to the feet of Good standing just outside the goal box. Without even settling the ball, the powerful junior sent a one-time shot towards the right side of the Chargers goal. The ball beat all the defenders and clanged off the inside of the right post before trickling into the back of the net to give Penn State Abington the amazing game-winning goal just minutes before a potential extra time arrived.
With the win, the Nittany Lions earn a rematch with their interstate rivals Penn State Berks, who are hosting the tournament and earned their place in the finals with a thrilling 1-0 win of their own. The hosts scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime period over Keuka, also on a corner kick. Penn State Abington will be looking to earn revenge after their only NEAC loss of the season,
a 4-1 loss on September 21st. Tomorrow's championship match will take place at 1:00 pm on the campus of Penn State Berks. Be sure to come out and support the women's soccer squad, or follow along using the live stats link
