Lancaster Bible Tops Lady Lions

Janay Winston scored 11 points to lead the Lady Lions.

Box Score Lancaster, Pa. – Lauren Heliger scored nine of her 24 points in the first half and pulled down five rebounds as Lancaster Bible College won its fifth straight game with a 62-34 victory over Penn State Abington on Wednesday night.

Heliger, who recently the program record for points in a career during last Saturday's 69-40 win over Wilson College, shot 8-for-19 from the field and made five of the six baskets from the charity stripe.

Aubrey Folger added 14 points and nine rebounds and Emily Martz grabbed eight boards for the Chargers (19-4, 14-2 NEAC), who were far from sharp in shooting just 38 percent and committing 10 turnovers.

Janay Winston scored 11 points to lead Penn State Abington (9-14, 7-9 NEAC), while Jaclyn Vandiver and Jessica Schmidt each grabbed eight boards for the Lady Lions, who struggled to find the basket, shooting just 29.8 percent from the field.

The Lady Lions committed 16 turnovers, were out-rebounded 27-12 and fell behind big in a hurry and couldn't recover. Abington stayed in contention during the first six minutes of the opening half, trailing by just three points, but with 6:28 remaining on the clock, the Lady Lions struggled to find the basket and trailed 30-15 at the break. They shot 6-for-19 and went 1-of-6 from 3-point range.

With the regular season winding down with two games remaining, Abington will have a chance to play the spoiler in its next game Friday, Feb. 15th as the Lady Lions host the Screaming Eagles of the College of St. Elizabeth, who currently sits in third spot of the NEAC South Division.
