Record-Setting Day Helps Abington Keep Winning Streak Going

Mugnier nets record with four goals en route to 7-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.)

Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer squad earned their second straight 7-0 win earlier this afternoon, and they used a big day from junior forward Mallory Mugnier. In just her sixth game as a Nittany Lion, Mugnier, a new addition to the program this year, found the back of the net four times and assisted on another goal to help the Blue and White knock off Notre Dame of Maryland for their fourth straight win.

Penn State Abington (5-1, 2-0 NEAC) got things rolling early with a goal from Molly Wyman. The freshman from Abington, Pa. briefly took the team lead with her fifth goal of the season. Then, the match turned into the Mallory Mugnier show. The junior netted the next three goals for the squad over the first 50 minutes of the match to give the Nittany Lions a commanding 4-0 lead. Not to be outdone, a number of other teammates contributed to the dominating effort. Wyman assisted on two of Mugnier's goals and Victoria Parker on the other before Cindy Wade and Ashlee Kohn scored goals of their own to make it a 6-0 game. Meanwhile, the Penn State Abington defense put in a strong day's work themselves, holding Notre Dame (2-3, 0-0 CSAC) to just four shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Kaye stopped everything she saw, earning her fifth win and fourth shutout of the year. In the 79th minute, Mugnier capped off her spectacular effort with one final goal, giving her a fourth of the day, a new record for goals scored in a single game at Penn State Abington. It was also her seventh goal of this young season, giving her the team lead in that category.

The 7-0 win moves Abington's current winning streak to four matches, and they'll have their next chance to keep the streak going when they play again this Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions will take on their interstate rivals Penn State Berks, and both squads will be putting their undefeated conference records on the line when the match kicks off at 2:00 pm at the Germantown Academy.
