Box Score Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's soccer squad got another big win earlier Sunday afternoon with a 13-1 victory over Valley Forge Christian College. The Nittany Lions used goals from 10 different players to earn their second victory in as many days, after having defeated Penn State Berks on Saturday for their first NEAC win.
Â
Penn State Abington (5-2, 1-0 NEAC) got things started early with a pretty goal from
Julian Antal. The lanky freshman worked a brilliant give-and-go at the top of the penalty box with
Guy Sikpa to get free of his defender. With just the goalkeeper in his way, Antal slotted a shot past him and into the middle of the net for an early 1-0 lead. After two goals from
Jose Giron, Sikpa got himself on the board with his fifth goal in two games. After a four-goal effort yesterday, the senior forward took a cross from
Nick Marques and drove a shot into the lower left corner of the net to make it 4-0. Over the remainder of the half, the Nittany Lions scored six more times to make it a 10-0 scoreline at halftime. In the second half, the Nittany Lions got another goal to make it eleven straight before the Patriots (1-9, 0-2 NCCAA) got one back themselves. The Nittany Lions scored twice more before the game ended, making the final score 13-1 in favor of the hosts. Over the course of the game, the Nittany Lions got goals from Antal and Sikpa, three from Giron, two from freshman
Mykola Lyakhovolsky, and one each from
Alex Martins,
Marco Paparo,
Andre Lynahping,
Emmanuel Saie,
Mouhamadou Faye, and
Michael Sullivan. The thirteen goals in today's match sets a new record for most goals in a game for the men's squad, breaking the previous record of eight that was set yesterday.
Â
With the victory, the Nittany Lions move to 5-2 on the year. The team now has the week off before travelling to New York this weekend for a pair of NEAC games. On Saturday, Penn State Abington will take on the last place team in the conference, SUNY Cobleskill, before facing the top team in the conference in SUNYIT. Gametime on Saturday is set for 1:00 pm.
