Men's Basketball Snaps Three-Game Skid in 85-76 Win over Penn State Berks

Box Score ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball team snapped a three-game skid with a 85-76 victory over conference foe, Penn State Berks Wednesday night.

Abington picked up its sixth North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game, improving 9-7 overall on the year while Berks drops to 3-5 in the NEAC and 3-9 on the season.

The start of the first half was a back and forth battle, which saw the score tied four times before Berks managed to extend a five point lead at the 12:26 on a basket from Daemon Nixon on a fastbreak before a pair of free throws by Alex Agyedu followed by a jumper from Avery Barnes, cut the deficit to three points. Berks would quickly respond with a trio of threes, two from Darren Major and one from Christian Burggraf to make it a nine point lead for the Nittany Lions with 9:07 to play in the first half.

Nisiar Smith carried Abington back into contention after scoring ten points, two from beyond the arc, as the Blue and White trailed by one with 3:54 to go. Avery Barnes would then connect with Max Alton for the layup at the 2:23 mark to give Abington its third lead of the game. Both teams traded a pair of buckets from the stripe before Mike Marvin pulled in a defensive rebound, fed the ball to Alton for an easy layup on the breakaway before the buzzer as Abington led 39-36 at the half.

The second stanza was all about Abington's strong attack, starting with a strong block by Marvin set up a fastbreak as Alton carried the ball down the court, finding Smith open for the easy layup to spark an 8-2 run for the Blue and White to extend the lead to 47-38. The game intensified midway through the half as Abington was able to nail most of the shots to lead by as much as 12 points throughout the stanza. Berks attempted its final rally in the final minutes only to watch Abington respond with points on the change of possession to keep the lead within double digits. As time winded down, Berks would only add two shots from the charity stripe as the Abington held on to snap the three-game skid.

Marvin earned his 13th double-double of the year after posting 21 points and pulling in 14 rebounds on the night. Barnes would also join Marvin on double-doubles with 10 points and 14 rebounds of his own. Smith tallied 22 points and Alton netted 20 with each player collecting four assists on the night.
