Hackettstown, N.J. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball team struggled Monday afternoon in their non-conference matchup as they were defeated by Centenary College 93-77.
Eleven minutes into the game, Centenary jumped out to any early 28-15 lead. Abington would cut the Cyclones lead to 10 points at 6:29 mark of the first half, but that would be the closest the Lions would get. Centenary took control of the game and dominated Abington in all facets Monday.
Abington was just 11-for-36 (30.6%) from the field in the first half, while Centenary shot the ball at a 52.6% rate (20-for-38) during the first 20 minutes of play.
After the break, the Cyclones' dominance continued. At one point in the second half, their lead swelled to as much as 30 points. The lone bright spots for Abington were
Dequan Jackson's (Philadelphia, Pa.) 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting, and
Max Alton's (Pennington, N.J.) 19 points on 8-of-19 shooting.
Abington (1-6, 1-0 NEAC) shot 27-for-68 (39.7%) from the field, while Centenary shot 36-for-74 (48.6%) from the field for the game. The Blue and White were just 9-for-29 (31.0%) from three point land, while Centenary was 9-for-21 (42.9%) from beyond the arc.
The Cyclones were led by Andy Charles' 16 points on 4-of-16 shooting. Charles also added 11 rebounds. Centenary outrebounded Abington 54-32 for the game.
Abington will return to action on Saturday, January 3rd, as they return home to play Cairn University. Game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
