Abington, Pa.- The Penn State Abington men's basketball team picked up their first victory of the season Saturday, as they dispatched Penn State Berks 84-74.
Abington (1-4, 1-0 NEAC) jumped out to an early 25-13 lead just ten minutes into the game.
Max Alton (Pennington, N.J.) led Abington with 16 points in the first half. Alton would finish the game with 26 points.
Abington took a 39-33 lead into half.
Abington was 15-for-39 (38.5%) from the field in the first half, while Berks shot the ball at a 33.3% rate (11-for-33) in the first half.
After the break, Abington's offense and tight defense would be the difference.
Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) had 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting.
Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) had 13 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double.
Alex Agyedu (Bensalem, Pa.) had 14 points and nine assists on 7-of-11 shooting.
Abington shot 31-for-72 (43.1%) from the field, while Berks shot 23-for-67 (34.3.%) from the field for the game. The Blue and White was 8-for-22 (36.4%) from three point land, while Arcadia was only 3-for-17 (17.6%) from beyond the arc.
Berks was led by Jalen Flynn's 33 points on 12-of-21 shooting. Baba Waples added 17 points and eight rebounds.
Abington will return to action on Friday, December 12th, as they travel north to play Penn State Lehigh Valley. Game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa.
