Storm Too Much For Abington to Weather in NEAC Play

Box Score KEUKA PARK , N.Y. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team dropped three straight games with the latest to Keuka College, 63-51 Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Abington to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), while Keuka improves to 9-6 on the year and 8-2 in conference play.

Stephanie Keyes led the squad with 16 points, pulling in eight rebounds and five steals on the day. Jessica Schmidt posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Janay Winston shot 6-of-13 from the floor for 12 points and a pair of assists.

Keuka started the tip-off with Casey Chamberlain posting four points on the board for the Storm's early lead, only to be matched by Abington's three-pointer by Keyes to spark a 8-0 run four minutes into the game.

Keuka would quickly respond with a 9-4 run to take the 13-12 lead and the battle for the lead continues eight more times in the first stanza until the 5:04 mark as Keuka maintained the lead on a layup from Taylor Szwec as she added five points on a pair of free throws and a three-pointer to extend the Storm's lead to 31-25 at the break.

Keuka opened the second stanza with Chamberlain posting six points for the Storm to extend a 12 point lead before Abington cut the six-point run on a Keyes layup. However that did not slow the Storm down as Keuka continued to batter the Nittany Lions throughout the second half, leading by as much as 17 points.

The Blue and White continued to battle their way through but the Storm proved to be too much as Keuka extended the lead to put the game out of reach for the 63-51 decision.

The Nittany Lions will look to regroup on Monday, February 3rd as they travel to Aston, Pa. to face the Knights of Neumann University in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. Stay tuned to Abingtonsports.com for all your scores and updates on the Blue and White action!
