Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College Wildcats nipped the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions 1-0 in men's soccer action on stormy Saturday night in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Randolph's Gabe Everette got the match's lone goal late in the first half in the 41
st minute. Everette finished the game with two shots on net.
Abington senior goalkeeper
Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.) kept the Nittany Lions in the game with a spectacular save in the 58
th minute off a head shot from Randolph's Troy Jurney. Saint-Pol would finish the game with seven saves.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature would play a role in this game. In the 56
th minute, the game was delayed an hour due to lightning in the area.
Once play resumed, the Lions had a golden opportunity in the 79
th minute to tie the game at one. However, sophomore midfielder
Daniel Ortiz's (Philadelphia, Pa.) penalty kick attempt was stopped by Wildcat keeper CJ Stevens.
Randolph outshot Abington 16-3 total for the match. Abington managed only two shots on net.
Viet Pham (Philadelphia, Pa),
Sean Seidenburg (Abington, Pa.) and
Jordan Jeune (Philadephia, Pa.) all picked up yellow cards in the game.
