Men’s Soccer Defeated By The Tigers

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The Penn State Abington men's soccer team encountered a tough test Sunday in their non-conference matchup against Hampden-Sydney College losing to the Tigers 4-0.

Abington got behind the eight ball right away giving up an early goal to the Tigers in the 3rd minute. Hampden-Sydney's James Lawrence fired a shot that slipped through the hands of Abington senior goalkeeper Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.). Robert Kerby garnered an assist on the play. Kerby finished the game with three assists.

The Tigers would add two more goals in the 27th and 28th minutes and took a 3-0 lead into half. Abington was outshot 9-1 total in the first half.

The second half wasn't much different as the Nittany Lions struggled to generate offense. The Tigers would add a fourth goal in the 78th minute courtesy of Ryan Turner.

The Nittany Lions were outshot 15-2 total for the game. Senior defender Ludger Noel (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and freshman midfielder Thomas Vessels (Jenkintown, Pa.) each picked up yellow cards in the game.

With the loss, the Nittany Lions drops to 0-3-1 on the season. They will return to action this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. where they will take on Penn State Berks in Reading, Pa. for the NEAC opener. You can follow live game stats and video of the game right here on www.abingtonsports.com.
