Nittany Lions Drop close game to Centenary 87-75

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team held a 45-43 lead at the half, but couldn't hold on in the second, as they fell to Centenary College 87-75. The Nittany Lions drop to 0-7, while Centenary improves to 6-3.

Senior Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded a double-double and hit a season-high 27 points on 7-of-16 shots, while he scooped 11 rebounds.  Junior Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) also hit a season high of 25 points for the evening.

In the first half, both teams battled in the first ten minutes of the game with the lead changing hands eight times. The Cyclones held a 29-25 advantage with 6:10 remaining in the half and went on a 8-2 run aided by clutch shooting from Kyle Smith.

A deep three pointer from Jackson sparked a late comeback with freshman Tom Trainor (Southampton, Pa.) and Jones hitting from behind the arc in consecutive possessions. Sophomore Spencer Bartron (Camden, Del.) hit his shot from downtown to edge closer to the Cyclones.  With 1:13 on the scoreboard the Cyclones held a 43-39 advantage, but clutch shooting from the line by Jones helped the Nittany Lions take the 45-43 lead at the break.

The Cyclones opened the second half on a 7-2 run but another clutch three from Jones, tied the game at 50 a piece .

Centenary slowly began to pull further ahead, but a steal and layup from Jackson helped the Nittany Lions to come back within five points at the 1:36 mark in the second half.  The Nittany Lions forced the visitors to the line in the remaining minutes but the Cyclones hit their free throws to put the game out of reach.

Abington returns after the New Year to host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday January 2, at 1:00 p.m.
