READING, Pa – The Abington men's basketball team held an early lead over local rival Penn State Berks, but the men couldn't hold on, losing a heartbreaker 100-91, Wednesday night.
With the loss Abington continue to slide in the in the NEAC, dropping to 7-14 overall and 6-8 in conference.
Abington started the night with the hot hand, taking an early 17-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Although Berks stormed back bringing both sides even in the next four minutes on an 18-4 run of its own. Both offenses were potent, but Abington couldn't reclaim the lead going into halftime down 51-44.
In the second half both teams battled, with Abington coming within a point of Berks, but with clutch free-throw shooting at the end, Berks pulled away with the win.
Abington scored a season high 91 points on the evening, shooting 35% from the floor and 32% from behind the arc.
Despite the loss, sophomore guard
Dequan Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa) was stellar sinking a career high 32 points and scooped up nine rebounds. Junior guard
Alex Agyedu (Bensalem, Pa.) also stood out for Abington, recording his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions continue their road trip at Cazenovia on Saturday, with tip off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
