ABINGTON, Pa – Behind a dominate game one performance from pitcher
Ted Smallwood (Athens, N.Y.), the Abington baseball team split its series with the City College of New York, taking game one 2-1 and dropping game two 12-2.
Abington move to 3-11 on the season right before the opening of conference play.
Abington struck first in game one when
Brandon Mau (Philadelphia, Pa.) grounded out driving in the first run.
Bryan Melendez (Lansdale, Pa.) added another with a solo shot to right center field, his first of the season.
Smallwood shut down the Beavers only giving five hits, and struck out six batters through seven innings.
Game two didn't fair as well for the Nittany Lions. A huge eight run sixth inning put the game out of reach. CCNY also silenced Abington's offense, only giving up four hits in seven innings.
The Nittany Lions return to the diamond to open up conference play against NEAC rival Penn State Berks in doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m.
