CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Janaiah Elum (Philadelphia, Pa.) came within two points of tying a single game record as the Penn State Abington women's basketball team cruised to a 84-62 win over Wilson College, Tuesday night.
Abington picks up another key NEAC victory to keep them in the hunt for the conference tournament, with a record of 11-7.
Elum's 38 points is a career high for the senior guard. Sophomore
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon, Pa.) chipped in 20 points for the evening. Senior
Mallory Mugnier (Glenside, Pa.) added another double-double performance with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Wilson College jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but the Nittany Lions defense woke up and only gave up 11 points the rest of the period. Elum was hot from the floor with 17 points in the first quarter on 7-of-11 shots.
The Nittany Lions kept their defensive dominance in the second period, and gave up 13 points as their defense forced seven turnovers. Elum was able to get to the stripe and push the Nittany Lions lead to 17 points going into the half.
In the third period Wilson couldn't hit their shots as the Nittany Lions only allowed 16 percent shooting from the floor and let up 12 points for the quarter.
Wilson outscored Abington in the fourth quarter, but the Nittany Lions held a comfortable lead and walked away with the win.
Abington returns to the court when they travel to Penn College Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
