Baseball Drops to Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Penn State Abington baseball team traveled to Rutgers-Camden but could not come away with their first win of the season. Three runs in the eighth inning sealed the 10-3 victory for the Scarlet Raptors.

Abington falls to 0-4 for the season.

Freshman catcher Max Perilstein (Cheltenham, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions, as he went 2-of-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

The Scarlet Raptors scored the first six runs of the game, but Abington started to rally in the sixth inning.  Perilstein connected for his first collegiate base hit to left field to drive in a run for the Nittany Lions.

Abington continued to chip away at the lead in the seventh inning with another run off a sacrifice fly from Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.).

Down 6-2 in the eighth inning, Shane Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned a tough single and minutes later moved into scoring position by stealing second base. With two outs, Perilstein knocked another single to left field to bring the game to 6-3.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Scarlet Raptors answered with three runs to put away the Nittany Lions.

The Nittany Lions will participate in the Clemente Cup in Puerto Rico over spring break. Abington will face off against the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
