LAJAS, PUERTO RICO – Behind solid pitching from
Diego Melendez (Camden, N.J) and
Ted Smallwood (Athens, N.Y.) the Penn State Abington baseball team swept SUNY Oneonta with a 2-1 win in game one and 8-2 decision in game two.
The Nittany Lions improve to 3-8 for the season.
Melendez kept the Red Dragons in check with nine strike outs and only surrendered one run. In game two Smallwood held a no hitter through five and a third innings.
In game one, the Red Dragons got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double. The Nittany Lions rallied in the bottom half of the inning when sophomore
Pat Fitzgerald (Warrington, Pa.) knocked an RBI double for the first run.Â
Max German (Newtown, Pa) followed with the go ahead RBI single to give the Nittany Lions the 2-1 lead. Melendez finished the game strong has he pitched his first complete game of the year.
The Nittany Lions will finish their spring break trip tomorrow when they face off against Susquehanna at 11:00 a.m.
