MORRISVILLE, NJ ā In the final regular season doubleheader, the Penn State Abington softball split the series with the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.Ā The Eagles took game one with a 6-3 decision, but the Nittany Lions shut out the host in game two with a score of 2-0.
The Nittany Lions improve to 18-16 for the year and finish third in the NEAC South standings at 10-8 in conference, with thier record the Nittany Lions have cliched a spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament.
Sophomore
Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) kicked off game one with an RBI single in the first inning.Ā The Eagles answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs and added to their lead with another three runs in the third inning.
Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.) chipped away at the lead with a solo shot in the seventh inning, but couldn't complete the rally.
Dougherty took the mound in game two and dominated the strike zone with six strikeouts and only four hits in her seven innings of work.Ā DeLagol knocked in both runs with an RBI single in the first inning and took advantage of an error from the shortstop in the third inning.
Abington will travel for the NEAC tournament on May 6 to face off against an opponent that will be determined after the weekend.
