Softball Exits NEAC Tournament After Loss to Berks

KEUKA PARK, Pa. – Sophomore slugger Greta Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) set a program record three home runs in a 17-7 rout of Wilson College for the Penn State Abington softball team in the NEAC tournament. After the Nittany Lions knocked out the Phoenix of Wilson College, they suffered a 12-6 setback against Penn State Berks to exit the NEAC tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Abington finished the season with a 21-18 record overall and a 13-10 mark in conference.

In game one Sheridan set the tone with a leadoff homerun in the first at bat. The Nittany Lions added two more runs in the inning off a single from Whitney DeLagol (Warminster, Pa.).

The Phoenix answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own, but Sherdan smashed her second homer of the game for the Nittany Lions in the third inning.  Abington added another run off an error from the Phoenix to hold a 6-3 advantage.

The Phoenix answered with the long ball on a three run home run to tie the game in the see-saw matchup.

Sheridan's third home run in the fourth inning spurred a four run swing to give the Nittany Lions a 10-6 lead.

Abington scored another seven runs highlighted by a double to right center field from Sheridan to stay alive in the conference tournament.

Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) kicked off game two with an RBI double to right field and Becca Dougherty (Churchville, Pa.) drove her in with a double of her own.

Penn State Berks tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a home run.
