ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team hosted Lancaster Bible College for its NEAC and home opener, but the Chargers played the spoiler and came away with a 2-0 win on Thursday evening.
The Nittany Lions drop to 1-2 for the season and 0-1 to start conference play.
The Chargers pressed the Nittany Lions back line, and forced 16 corner kicks, but the defense held on and didn't give up any goals that came from a corner.
Lancaster Bible was held scoreless in the first half but broke through in the second half on a long shot outside the box that passed the keeper. The Chargers added to their lead in the 61
st minute with a curled shot the found the back of the net at the far right post.
Despite giving up two goals, goalkeeper
Samantha Friend (Philadelphia, Pa.) held her own and blocked seven shots on the 23 shots faced.
The Nittany Lions will look to rebound when they travel to Penn College on Saturday, with kickoff slated for a noon start.
