WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman
John Ryan (Warminster, Pa.) put up a career high 34 points, as the Penn State Abington men's basketball team ended its three game skid with an 82-70 win over Penn College on Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions improve to 4-4 in the conference and 5-8 overall.
Ryan's 34 point record is tied for fourth in a single game. It is six points shy of
Dequan Jackson's record-setting game against Wells College last year.
Penn College took an early lead in the first half, but that changed quickly with the Nittany Lions shifting momentum minutes later. An 8-0 run highlighted by two layups from Ryan gave the Nittany Lions a 12-5 lead in the first five minutes of action. The Wildcats cut the lead quickly, but
Don Sloan (Philadelphia, Pa.) kept them at bay with his bucket from downtown. With five minutes left on the clock, Abington pushed the lead with an 8-3 run, up 37-31 going into the break.
In the second half, Ryan put the Nittany Lions up by double-digits with his three-ball in the first few minutes. Abington continued its dominance in the quarter when they took a 71-54 lead off of
Momolu Dorley's (Trenton, NJ) shot from behind the arc to put the game out of reach.
Abington will be back in action when they host Wells College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
