Women's Basketball Tops Cedar Crest College, 81-46

NEWARK, NJ – Fresh off their big win over St. Joes-LI, the Penn State Abington women's basketball team pummeled Cedar Crest College 81-46 in the second day of the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic on Saturday afternoon.

After her 27 point performance against the Golden Eagles, junior guard Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) followed up her outstanding game with another 26 points against the Falcons. For her efforts she was named to the Tournament Team along with senior guard Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, PA).  Keyes chipped in 17 points in today's game and senior Grace Dewey (Falls Church, Va.) pulled off the double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Dewey kicked off the game with her layup within the first 10 seconds of the game.  Keyes had the hot hand from behind the arch with a pair of three-pointers in the first few minutes of action. The Nittany Lions quickly pushed their lead to double digits behind a 10 point quarter from Rodriguez, Abington held a comfortable 24-10 advantage at the break.

The Falcons started with a 4-0 run after some sloppy play, but the Nittany Lions responded with a 10-0 run highlighted by Rodriguez scoring eight of their 10 points.  Five minutes into the second period the Nittany Lions earned a 20 point lead getting freshman Iyanna Walls (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Iman Richmond (Chicago, IL) involved in the scoring.  The youth movement took over, and helped the Nittany Lions out to a huge 47-18 lead at the break.

In the third quarter the Nittany Lions held a 37 point margin by earning tough points in the paint and capitalizing on the Falcons seven turnovers. Even with the lead, the Nittany Lions didn't take their foot off the gas, still outscoring Cedar Crest College 18-16 in the period.

Abington continued to press the Falcons in the fourth quarter, and earned their second win of the year in impressive fashion.

The Nittany Lions will return home and host Cairn University this Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
