ASTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball game played it final game before the holiday break, but dropped a 73-55 decision at Neumann on Wednesday evening. After tonight's loss the Nittany Lions fall to 6-3 for the season.
Junior guard
Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, PA) led the Nittany Lions with a 21 point performance, and chipped in five assists and three steals.
A sluggish start for the Nittany Lions helped the Knights jump out to a 15-2 lead early in the first quarter. Two shots from downtown from
Brittany Keyes (Huntingdon Valley, PA) and
Symantha Marrero (Philadelphia, PA) helped the Nittany Lions claw their way back, but still trailed 21-12 after the first period.
In the second quarter the Nittany Lions were sloppy with the rock committing nine of their 18 first half turnovers helping the Knights to 18 points off turnovers, while the Nittany Lions managed only five points off turnovers.
Down at the half the Nittany Lions struggled to generate points off the bench while the deep roster for the Knights chipped in 22 points in the game. In the third period Neumann drilled the boards and scored most of their points in the paint to help them push the lead to 19 points at the break.
In the fourth quarter the Nittany Lions outscored the Knights, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback.
Abington will be off until they travel to the Hood College on Saturday December 30
th at 1:00 p.m.
