Men's Basketball Falls to Hartwick, 93-84

HUNGTINGDON, Pa. – Freshman Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) hit a career high 19 points but it wasn't enough for the Penn State Abington men's basketball team to overcome Hartwick College in a 93-84 loss on Friday afternoon.  After the tournament the Nittany Lions drop to 2-6 on the season.

Ghee led all scorers with his mark, and right behind Terrance Reese (Philadelphia, PA) chipped in 14 points for the day.

Junior forward Jordan Lomax (West Haven, CT) made his return with a double-double, scoring 14 points and scooping 11 boards. For his performance he was named to the Juniata All-Tournament Team.

In the first half the Nittany Lions took the lead in the opening minute of action and held off the Hawks thanks to a perfect performance from Ghee. The freshman went 6-of-6 from the floor, including a flawless 3-for-3 from behind the arch.  The Hawks hung around and eventually tied the game 39-39 with only three minutes remaining in the half.  A few late free-throws for Hartwick gave them the one point advantage going into the break.

Both teams traded shots in the early second half with nine lead changes in the first four minutes.  Hartwick began to pull away when the Nittany Lions ran into foul trouble. The Hawks made the most of their opportunities and went 11-for-11 at the free throw line to sink the Nittany Lions chances of a come from behind win.

The Nittany Lions will be back in action when they travel to the Stevenson tournament on Friday December 29th where they will face the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 6:00 p.m.
