Nittany Lions hit Milestone but fall to Altoona in Doubleheader

ORLANDO, FL - Junior Matt Meyers (Cheltenham, Pa.) recorded his 100th career hit, but the Penn State Abington baseball team was swept by Penn State Altoona on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fall to 1-8 for the season after they dropped game one 11-9, and fell in the second 6-5.

Meyers is the 9th player in Penn State Abington baseball history to reach 100 hits. Right behind him, senior Trey Guaglionona (Abington, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions with one run three hits and five RBI's in the doubleheader.

In game one Abington took the early lead but Altoona rallied with nine unanswered runs in the third and fourth inning.  Abington answered in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs and later the next Inning the Nittany Lions tied Altoona off a three run home run from Meyers, his second of the season.  Two runs in the final inning from Altoona clinched the first game of the double header.

Guaglionona kicked off game two with a two run single up the middle in the in the first inning. Altoona tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of its own.  Meyers gave the Nittany Lions the edge off an RBI single to left field in the fifth inning.  Altoona would go on to score three unanswered runs with Abington on deck in the final inning. Guaglionona kept the Nittany Lions alive with his two run single to right field, but with runners on the corners, the Nittany Lions couldn't pull in front of Altoona.  In extra innings Altoona stole the win with a walk off single.

The Nittany Lions look to rebound against DeSales University on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
