LA PLUME, PA. - The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team won its second straight game with a big 16-7 win over Keystone College on Thursday afternoon. The Nittany Lions are off to their best start in program history with a 2-0 record.
The Nittany Lions were offense by committee with eight different sorcerers in the game. Tthe youth movement was led by freshman
Alynn Phelan (Philadelphia, Pa.) with four goals on 12 shots, and sophomore
Marah Hayes (Churchville, Pa.) followed up her terrific performance against with three goals of her own.
After five minutes of a stalemate the Giants opened up the scoring with a 1-0 advantage. Abington answered with three consecutive goals from
Veronica Baez (Hatboro, Pa.), Phelan, and
Melissa Felicetti (Upper Moreland, Pa.) to take the 3-1 lead. Keystone pulled another goal back with 18:29 on the clock, but Abington shut out the Giants for the rest of the half. After the goal from Keystone, Hayes took the draw control and took it down the field and earned a goal that shifted momentum in the Nittany Lions favor. Abington added two more goals to go into the break up 6-2.
Keystone came out of the break with a goal at the five minute mark, but Abington added another two goals to take a commanding 8-3 lead. The Giants shifted momentum with two consecutive goals, but Hayes snapped that momentum with a crucial goal to spur the Nittany Lions to score seven of the next eight goals.
Riding high off of their road victory, the Nittany Lions will be back home to host the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 1:00 p.m.
