Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Nick Economopoulos

Nittany Lions Stunned by Hilbert, 24-22

HAMBURG, NY – The Penn State Abington women's lacrosse team won eight consecutive games, but their winning streak came to an end with a 24-22 loss at Hilbert on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions drop to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, still in second place in the NEAC behind Morrisville State.

Sophomore Melissa Felicetti (Willow Grove, Pa.) fell one goal shy of tying the single game goals record (9) set by Nicole Hayes in the game. Sophomore Marah Hayes (Warminster,Pa.) netted five goals and five assists in the loss.

The Nittany Lions took control in the beginning of the first half when Felicetti went off with five goals on their way to a 7-3 lead. The Hawks hung around but Abington still held a slim lead in the final ten minutes of play.  Hilbert shifted momentum drastically in its favor with 11 unanswered goals in the end of the first half.

Faced with their biggest deficit of the season, the Nittany Lions didn't fold. Over the second half the Nittany Lions continued to chip away at the Hawks lead. With under five minutes the remaining in the game the Nittany Lions came within five goals and Hayes put the Nittany Lions within position to tie the game, but Abington came up short.

The Nittany Lions will return home with the week off to host two critical NEAC games against Cazenovia on Saturday and for senior day, the Nittany Lions host NEAC leaders Morrisville State.
