Softball Rallies to Series Sweep over CSE

ABINGTON, Pa. – A sharp single down the left field line from senior Breanna Lineman (Philadelphia, Pa.) helped the Penn State Abington softball team rally to a series sweep of the College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon. Abington took game one 4-2, and earned a walk off 4-3 win in game two.

The Nittany Lions improve to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

In game one the Eagles were on the board first off a double that drove in two runs in the second inning.  The Nittany Lions answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when Caitlin Brasier (Levittown, Pa.) drove a ball deep to center field to score two runs to tie the game. Freshman Isabel Hoch (Philadelphia, Pa.) helped the Nittany Lions take the lead with an RBI in the fifth inning. Later in the inning the Nittany Lions took advantage of an error to win the game 4-2.

In the bottom of the first of game two, Becca Dougherty (Churchville,Pa.) drove in the game's first run with a sharp single to the shortstop. The Eagles answered with three answered run through the second, third and fourth inning.  In the fifth inning Hoch shifted momentum with a bomb to center field for a solo home run, her first of the year.  Sophomore Samantha Friend (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied the game in the sixth inning with an RBI single to center field. In the bottom of the seventh, Dougherty made her way to third base and on the first pitch of Lineman's at bat, she rocketed the pitch for the walk off win.

Abington will continue its home stand when they host Franklin and Marshall on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
