LEWISBURG, Pa. – On day two of the NEAC tournament the Penn State Abington baseball team lost two consecutive games to be knocked out of contention. Abington picked up where they left off against Berks after yesterday's game was suspended in the top of the 7
th inning. Berks took the first game after an 11 inning slugfest, with a 9-8 win. Right off the heels of the loss Abington faced off against Penn College and fell to the Wildcats 10-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions finish their season with a 16-23 record after the tournament.
After the hiatus, Berks came out ready with three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but Abington answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from
Christopher Hartman (Philadelphia, Pa.). Going into the bottom of the ninth inning Berks held a 7-4 advantage, but the Nittany Lions wouldn't quit after
Jon Rivera (Egg Harbor City, NJ) sliced his pitch to right field for an RBI, and
Dante Milillo (Philadelphia, Pa.) added another two runs off a single. Again Berks added another two runs to its total in the top of the 11
th inning, and
Stevie Stevenson (Westhampton, NJ) cut the deficit with his RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. Although Abington couldn't add to its total to tie the game.
After the loss to Berks, Abington took the field for the second game of the day against Penn College and started off quickly with an RBI from
Austin Mikula (Philadelphia, Pa.). The Wildcats answered in the top of the second inning with four runs highlighted by a double. Abington chipped away at the lead with runs in the third and fourth inning to tie the game. A huge five run fifth inning helped the Wildcats take control until a late run from the Nittany Lions. Down 10-6 in the final inning, Abington rattled the Wildcats pitcher with a balk, and a huge two run single from
Julio Aira (Miami, FL) brought the Nittany Lions to within a run. Unfortunately the Nittany Lions couldn't muster another run to force extra innings.
