Nittany Lions Fall to Neumann 3-0 on Opening Day

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's soccer team opened its season hosting Neumann University, but the Nittany Lions were topped by the Knights 3-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions attack recorded nine shots for the afternoon, but only tested the goalkeeper twice throughout the game. The Knights had fewer shots than Abington, but Neumann converted its chances.

In the first half, the Knights were quickly on the board. A corner kick in the fourth minute led to Neumann's first goal of the game after the Knights Danni Elman slotted the ball inside the bottom left post.  The best chance for the Nittany Lions came late in the half when sophomore forward Haley Miller (Hatfield, Pa.) took a deep shot that went off the post.

After the break, Neumann kept the Nittany Lions at bay and added to their total in the 79th minute with a goal off another corner that was headed into the net by Brittany Stewart. With only a few minutes remaining, the Knights beat the offside trap, and Lindsey Padilla beat the keeper one on one to the near post.

Abington will return to action when they travel to the Arcadia Invitational next weekend on Saturday, September 9, at 1:00 p.m. against the hosting Knights.
