Nittany Lions Knocked out of NCAA Tournament by John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH – The Penn State Abington's season came to a close after traveling to John Carroll for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but fell to the Blue Streaks 4-0 on Saturday night.

The season comes to an end with a fantastic 14-6-1 record for the Nittany Lions.

Abington excelled in possession in the first half, but struggled in the final third of the field with only one shot on target by Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin, PA).  The Blue Streaks' Chad Kanakkanatt notched his third goal of the season to give the hosts the 1-0 lead in the first half.  Abington couldn't find an answer with only two shots the entire half, both by Palomeque.

In the second half Abington looked better in the attack, only down 1-0 the Nittany Lions pressed the Blue Streaks and earned a free kick right outside the box.  Palomeque took the free kick, but his curled shot deflected off the wall and went just wide of the post. Moments later the defending NEAC Player of the Year took a long shot that went just over the crossbar for another stellar chance for the Nittany Lions. In the 64th minute John Carroll earned a back-breaking goal when a cross from the right wing was deflected by the defender and went right to the waiting feet of the Blue Streaks' Lawrence Cersosimo. The hosts would go on to add another two goals to push the game out of reach for the Nittany Lions.

John Carroll will move on in the tournament and face the winner of Penn State Behrend and Lycoming tomorrow evening.
