Nittany Lions Advance to NEAC Championship

ABINGTON, PA – For the second consecutive year the Penn State Abington men's soccer team will feature in the NEAC Championship against Lancaster Bible.  The Nittany Lions earned their spot in the final after a thrilling 3-2 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon.

Lancaster Bible punched their ticket to the championship after a 4-1 win over Penn College in the second game of the day.

In the first half the Nittany Lions looked tense, and only two shots that tested the keeper. The Fighting Tigers had momentum in the first half forcing freshman goalkeeper Esteban Leon (Miami, FL) to make multiple saves to keep the visitors off the board. At the half neither team could break through in the tense matchup.

It didn't take long for SUNY Cobleskill to get on the board in the second half when Khadim Diba earned his 10th goal of the season to stun the hosts in the 55th minute. The goal lit a fire under the Nittany Lions and they responded moments later when Jose Palomeque (Upper Dublin, PA) swung in the corner to Sean Seidenburg (Rockledge PA) who put it in the back of the net.  In the 61st minute the 2018 NEAC Player of the Year took a far out free kick and placed it just under the bar to give the Nittany Lions the lead.  Freshman Jaden Truskey (Ephrata, PA) extended the lead ten minutes later when he put his shot just in the left post to give the Nittany Lions the 3-1 advantage.  The Fighting Tigers' Chris Gardener put his team back in contention with his goal in the 75th minute to cut the lead to 3-2.  The final 15 minutes were nervy for the Nittany Lions but they held on to advance to the NEAC Championship.

Abington will host Lancaster Bible in the NEAC Championship tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
