READING, PA. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball team picked up a big win over their rival Penn State Berks in a 78-59 win on Wednesday night.
The Nittany Lions continue their strong play in the conference with an 8-2 record and improve to 11-8 overall.
John Ryan (Warminster, PA) led the way for the Nittany Lions with 15 points, and
Jordan Lomax (West Haven, CT) earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions dominated the lane to start the game. Dunks from
Bobby Olsen (Florida, NY) and
Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) helped Abington to take a 14-8 lead in the first six minutes of the half. Berks wouldn't go away and rallied with a 10-5 run to bring the game within three points midway through the half. Abington held the one score advantage until they were kick started with tough points in the paint to hold a 35-27 lead at the break.
Lomax pushed Abington's lead to double digits early in the second half with a 6-0 run by the senior forward. With 15:43 on the clock Abington was in complete control with a 17 point advantage. Sophomore
Jay Fitzgerald (Philadelphia, PA) increased the margin to 25 points after he drained his shot from downtown. Abington closed out the game and picked up another crucial win in the hunt for the North Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.
The Nittany Lions will be back home when they host Keuka College on Saturday for senior day at 3:00 p.m.
