ABINGTON, PA- The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team picked up two crucial wins on Saturday afternoon by sweeping both SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Poly. The Nittany Lions improve to 14-15 overall and 7-3 in conference.
The Nittany Lions honored their three seniors Pamala Dayley (Twin Falls, ID), Cortney Schwar (Annandale, NJ), and Angie Tabares (Hackensack, NJ) for their outstanding Penn State Abington careers, in their final home match.
In game one, Abington took three sets from the Tigers in an easy 25-13, 27-25, and 25-11 decision. Leading the way for the Nittany Lions was Jenny McAnaney (Maple Glen, PA) who tallied 15 kills and 13 digs. Katharine Costello (New Hope, PA) was right behind her with an even 14 kills and 14 digs. Senior Cortney Schwar added 27 more assists to her All-Time Leading record. She entered the day with a total of 1,849 in her career.
The Nittany Lions stayed hot in game two by sweeping the Wildcats 25-11, 25-23, and 25-14. As a team, Abington had their highest hitting percentage of the season with an impressive .349. Seniors Angie Tabares and Pam Dayley had a pair of blocks each for Abington. Schwar collected 29 assists in game two, for a total of 56 on the day.
Up next Abington will finish the regular season on the road at Penn College when they face the Wildcats and King's College next Saturday November 2.
