LANGHORNE, PA. - On the road, the Penn State Abington men's basketball team bounced back with a 99-93 win over Cairn University on Friday night. After tonight the Nittany Lions improve to 1-1 for the season.
Junior Amir Hill made his presence known with a dominant 30 points performance to lead the Nittany Lions. Right behind Pernell Ghee chipped in 21 points and led the Nittany Lions on the boards with eight rebounds. Another junior Jay Fitzgerald recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists to create for Abington.
The Highlanders took the early lead in the first half, but it didn't last long because of clutch shooting from behind the arc from Hill and Fitzgerald. Alex Salata III pushed the lead to double-digits helping the Nittany Lions shoot 42 percent from three, and a whopping 57 percent from the floor. Toward the end of the half, the Highlanders continued to chip away at the Nittany Lions lead coming within six points with only a minute of action left.Â
In the second half the Nittany Lions kept the hot hand shooting quickly pulling even further ahead thanks to a big night from Hill. Cairn earned tough fouls and converted their free throws to cut the deficit coming within five points under ten minutes to play. Hill kept the Nittany Lions ahead with a pair of clutch three-pointers and helped them see out their first win of the season.
The Nittany Lions will continue their road trip when they face off against Immaculata University on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
