ABINGTON, PA- On Saturday afternoon, the Penn State Abington men's basketball team dominated in their home opener by defeating Arcadia University 92-77. The Nittany Lions improve to 3-1 on the season.
Abington's offense was electric shooting .500 from behind the arc, draining 13 of 26 for a season best. In a total team effort, all ten Nittany Lions got on the board to help Abington in a home triumph. Â
Leading the way was junior Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) who earned his first double-double of the season tallying 10 rebounds and a season high of 25 points. Fellow juniorJay Fitzgerald (Philadelphia, PA) was right behind him netting 15 points for Abington. Three other Nittany Lions joined the double figures club including senior veteran John Ryan (13), while Amir Hill and Alex Salata III contributed 10 a piece in Abington's victory.
The Knights and Abington battled fiercely in the first half with both teams only allowing a five point differentiation throughout the entire half. The Nittany Lions defense forced 10 points off of turnovers to give them the 36-35 advantage at halftime.
Abington's offense came alive in the second half by draining an impressive 55% of their field goals, and going 9 for 15 from behind the arc . The Nittany Lions shut down Arcadia's deep three shooting, only allowing the Knights to shoot 25%.
The Nittany Lions will enjoy their fall break, before returning back to action on Saturday December 7th for their first conference game of the season, on the road against Keuka College.
