Nittany Lions Upset Chargers

LANCASTER, PA. – Sophomore Pernell Ghee (Germantown, PA) had another standout performance leading the Penn State Abington men's basketball team to a big 85-78 win over NEAC South power Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions finish the regular season with a 13-12 record overall and 10-6 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Ghee went 9-of-15 from the field with 29 points to lead all scorers. Next sophomore Jay Fitzgerald (Philadelphia, PA) went 4-of-7 from behind the arc and netted 22 points. On the boards Jordan Lomax (West Haven, CT) did the dirty work and scooped 10 rebounds.

In the first half the Nittany Lions went down to the Chargers in the eight minutes of the game by a 19-9 margin.  A three-pointer from Alex Salata III (Pottstown, PA) helped the Nittany Lions turn the tide with a 17-8 run that was capped off by a sweet three by Fitzgerald.  Through the entire first half the Nittany Lions only led for 15 seconds, but junior John Ryan (Warminster, PA) drained the final shot of the half to give the Nittany Lions the 41-40 advantage.

Abington held on to the tight lead in the second half, and couldn't pull further ahead of the Chargers thanks to some clutch shooting by Lancaster Bible. At the 15 minute mark the Chargers took the lead again, but the advantage changed hands five times over the next few minutes of play. The Nittany Lions held the slim advantage thanks to pounding the paint, but Lancaster Bible would answer every shot to keep the game close. A crucial 6-2 run for the Nittany Lions helped them stay ahead of Lancaster Bible in the final three minutes of the game and helped them to pull off the upset.

The Nittany Lions have punched their ticket to the NEAC Tournament and will find out who they will face in the first round as announced by the conference.
